EAIS is dedicated to leveraging public-private partnerships to support Iowa schools.
A grant covering the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years was recently submitted to the Wellmark Foundation to help cover the costs of school radon test kits, help with potential mitigation costs, and community radon test kits for schools participating in the School Radon Training & Support System (SRTSS).
A Year 2 grant application to the Iowa Cancer Consortium (and Iowa Department of Public Health/Centers for Disease Control) will also be submitted shortly to continue expanding the number of schools receiving matching grants for radon training, testing and support through EAIS and SRTSS.
During 2017-18, matching grants were awarded to 19 Iowa school districts to participate in the School Radon Training & Support System (SRTSS) and test their buildings for radon. These districts also had access to a mitigation assistance fund to be shared as needed.
These generous grant dollars made the already-affordable SRTSS even more affordable and accessible to schools, allowing them to keep their students, educators and communities as safe as possible from radon-induced lung cancer.
2018-19 Kickoff Workshops will begin across the state in October 2018. More information will be posted as news of grant dollars is received. Please contact Julie Weisshaar for more information.
